What data are provided?

The Claritas Census 2000 data (SF3, SF1 and PL94) on this site are made available from the Census Bureau's recent census 2000 release. Claritas has further enhanced the data that the census provides by calculating additional variables (SF1 and PL94) and providing different methods of geographic retrieval.

PL94 Redistricting Data are reported for 2000 census geographic definitions. Data for counties, places and county subdivisions (MCDs) reflect changes to the corporate limits of governmental units since 1990. Data for statistical units such as census tracts and block groups reflect revisions that have been implemented for the 2000 decennial census.

It's also worth noting that changes have been made to tabulations of persons by race. These have resulted from the ability of respondents to mark more than one race category on the 2000 census and the fact that 1990 census race classification "Asian or Pacific Islander" has been split into two categories: "Asian" and "Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander".

What is the difference between an estimate and a projection?

Claritas demographic data are updated annually to reflect Current Year estimates and 5 Year projections. An estimate looks at the population (or households, or income, etc.) today, in terms of the recent past, and is based on actual past event data. A projection looks into the future based on a combination of today's reality and speculations or assumptions made by the analyst about the future. Current Year data shows the estimate for present day, while 5 Year is the projected estimate.
